The French novelist Jules Verne wrote a series of fast-paced adventure stories published under the collective title of Voyages Extraordinaires Dans les Pays Connus et Inconnus that have thrilled generations of readers. Verne’s heroes go underground, to the bottom of the ocean, around the world and up to the moon, travelling by elephant and by train, on steamers and on submarines, in balloons and in rocket ships.
