Around The World In Eighty Days

This is the first time the Great Reading Adventure has chosen a book by a non-British author. For the full-text edition of Around the World in Eighty Days we have used William Butcher’s acclaimed English translation first published in 1995 for the Oxford World’s Classics series. We have also produced an adaptation suitable for younger readers that is available in libraries and can be downloaded from the Education section of this site.

In this section you will find explanatory notes to the book based on the William Butcher edition. You can also read about the extraordinary George ‘Citizen’ Train, a real-life Phileas Fogg, and Mike Todd’s spectacular screen adaptation of Fogg’s epic journey.

For further information about the book read the Around the World in Eighty Days section from the readers’ guide, available here as a PDF or Word document.
